Warmaster Skaven help
« on: July 03, 2015, 11:32:51 PM »
Hi Guys,

I'm in need of some identification help. I have hundreds of strips of rats and they are all mixed up. I can get the major units like jessails, monks, and ogres (obvious) separated ok, but I have no clue what the difference is between strips of clan rats, storm vermin and gutterrunners is. Also I have a bunch of strips of rats that have thick stubby guns (look like warp throwers) and guys with little spheres (look like poison globe throwers from 40k) but they don't exist in the standard rules. Very confused.

Gutter runners all have cloaks and there are models with throwing stars.

Clanrats have some "naked" Skaven and less armour than Stormvermin.

Stormvermin are more heavily armoured and thus show less fur.

The ratling guns et al. are just additional strips to be mixed in with the clanrats or where you'd like them. All that being said, it is pretty much up to you as long as the units can be distunguished. All my Stormvermin have green banners for example.

Aquahog beat me to it, but I already had this typed  :P , so:

The weapon teams- the warpfire throwersm globes, etc.- come with the Clanrat units. They have no rules- they're just there to look interesting (like the Squig Hoppers and Fanatics in goblin units). You can put them in any units you want, though too few in the clanrats and you can end up with odd gaps.

Clanrats vs Stormvermin is just armour. Every Stormvermin has heavy armour, only two Clanrat do (the champions). Clanrats tend to be naked or have a few rags.

Gutter Runners have capes IIRC, which is unique to them. They also only have swords and other short weapons- nearly all Clanrats and Stormvermin have spears/halberds.

One thing that may confuse you- skaven have a lot of 'command' models. In my own units, all clanrats have two standard bearers per unit, and they also come with two champions (though the command models can fit well with the basic stormvermin if you don't want to use too many champions).

If there are any stands you're still confused about I recommend posting photos.

Look up "warmaster army selector" on google - it uses the last updated armylists.

One step aside - I would like to build  list for skaven. I thought that Cannon are per 2 stands, but in wm-selector and armies book are per 1 stand. What is right?

Unfortunately, it's only one stand per unit.
Although they are good, this does make them very brittle!

Personally, IMO for the points, you're better off buying rat ogres. On the other hand they are fantastic figures and should be fielded just to round the army off and give it some variety and depth.
