Eureka and/or Irregular Minis for BoFA??
« on: March 04, 2016, 10:31:00 PM »
Hello all,

I sure hope this isn't buried in a dead forum and there are some BoFA people still out there other than me or Lex. I was wondering about using some other model for use in BoFA and Warmaster Ancients.

Copplestone minis are too big for my taste, and aside from Bretonnian Cavalry, the rest of the Warmaster minis appear to be too...chunkie. Although, I must admit, I have never seen a WM minis and BoFA infantry unit side by side.

However, the topic here is, does anyone own or use Eureka Minis or "Irregular" minis for BoFA??? Are Irregular minis even 10mm or is it ONLY 6mm??

Looking for some advice.

Which race were you going for?  Considering that Copplestone is almost explicitly for 10mm BOFA/LOTR it would be a huge shame to discount them.  Especially as you can build a full Rohan army out of them.

I owned many copplestone minis bought on an impulse. They were a few millimeters taller than any BoFA stand. The difference was highly noticeable to me. Also the spears were much longer. The horses were also bigger. Closer to 12mm in my opinion. So, not really compatible with BoFA directly.

I'm specifically talking about Eureka and Irregular.

Hi,
We do not have Eureka minis (with the exception of some  Elephants).
But we have :
Pendraken Normans masquerading as Rohan cav , in the fourth rank , the 3 first lines being Copplestone figs :

Other Pendraken here :
http://vendheaume.fighters.pagesperso-orange.fr/lotrsona.htm

On Forlong stands : mix of Irregular and Magister Militum , and  on Fishermen stands : mix of Old Glory and Irregular

One comparison here :

and another page for which  we provided some pics :

Irregular , a good part of the figs, are on the smaller side, but mix with Old Glory, Pendraken. They will be a little bigger than the original Bofa plastic figs.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Guerrier de Rohan

I think that if you are using the plastic BoFA figures as your baseline you will struggle to find metals that match, as the BoFA figures are very slight and smaller than most metals.

Generally speaking, GW Warmaster, copplestone, Pendraken historical, magister Militum, Warmonger, and irregular are pretty compatible size wise, and would be regarded as 10mm. None of the ranges are entirely consistent within themselves, and there are bigger figures and smaller ones, but they are generally compatible with each other.

Kallistra and Pendraken fantasy are definately larger, probably 12mm. You wouldn't want to mix these in units with the above ranges, but armies of these look fine against armies of the above.

A couple of smaller sized ranges are Pendrakens Mongols and the Evil Men range by Yann, but I think this range has not made it into production following its indiegogo campaign.

The copplestone figures are some of the nicest 10mm figures, and are based on LoTR so to not use these would be a shame.

The Copplestone Infantry tower over the BoFA ones. I wish they were 4mm smaller and I think they would be perfect. I'd love to see Bretonnian Peasants next to BoFA. I'm not sure I mind the chunky'ness vs. the height of Copplestone. I will look int Pendraken

I don't have those specific Eureka miniatures you are talking about but in general I have liked them in comparison with the BoFA plastics (which are definitely on the small side).  I did a conversion of some of the wild elves they have to a mounted Thranduil and it works pretty well size wise.  The Copplestone minis are fantastic, and you can mix and match with a lot of other manufacturers and its pretty unnoticeable unless you are staring at them right next to each other and looking closely for the size difference.
