After reading a few things and letting the 2 little dice in my head rattle around a bit I was mostly against the "battle honors" in the book because they didn't have what I have grown to call "battle scars". Green horn replacements.
SO.....what I think I will try during my first campaign is this......
the winner gets to win one battle honor/scar....the scars can only be given to units going down to their last stand as they will be re-enforced after the battle with fresh recruits who don't know how to spit straight let alone march or hold a shield wall. So the "battle honors" in the book will be duplicated and mirrored for the exact same thing but opposite. "Vicious fighters" with the +1 to attack for the first round will turn into "Green Horns" and they will get a -1 for the first round of all engagements. Etc. Etc.
Sticking to the rules in the book, only infantry and cavalry will gain these and only one may be given out total after each battle and only one per unit possible ever. I badly wanted to allow multiples per unit but that would be too powerful and the only thing I could think of against it getting out of hand is that if you roll for a double, 2 "Bushwhackers" upgrades, one would just replace the other, not awarding the unit further at all and essentially wasting a possible battle honor. But I will stick to the rules as much as possible as I trust the creators have already play tested the system before publishing the book
But "Battle Scars" are definitely in!
Any suggestions, please let me know
