Re: Chaos fleet 1500 - Imperial opponents to be added!

Hello all,

I've had a small BFG fleet sitting around for a couple of years, and recently decided to get back/more into it and update it to 1500 points.

So far I had 5 Cruisers I purchased back then - an Acheron, 2 Devastations and 2 Carnages. Today I haunted ebay for a bit and scored a Repulsive grand cruiser and 3 Infidels. Since I intend to upgrade the Repulsive with the longer-ranged lances as well as the additional shield (by the way: what's the size of a large base in BFG?) that comes to 1405 points including the 100 point warmaster.
Leaving me with 95 points to fill out. Now, ideally I'd probably want to bring the escort squadron to 4 or even 5 ships I think, but I want to use what I have available now. I'm thinking of taking a CSM crew for the Repulsive, along with a MoK and chosen Terminators, and then a Lord for one of the Devastations. Good idea? insane overspending on the flagship?

I have played a grand total of 2 games a couple of years ago, so suggestions are welcome!

Possible overspend on the flagship there but i tend to do that.

BFG large bases are the GW large flying bases which are 60 mm diameter.

The Chaos Space Marines are more suited on a carrier. Plus the Repulsive is a tidbit slower. So I would not us e them on that ship.

Add three Iconoclasts.

Thanks for the tips so far! Adding 3 Iconoclasts would certainly be nice, but I don't have any right now... we'll see if that can be remedied in the near future.

But what would you do to fill in the 95 points for 1500, assuming the models I listed are all that are available?

So I've managed to get my Chaos fleet up to 1500 points, taking horizons suggestion of adding a second escort squadron of Iconoclasts. Yay!
But in the process of hunting for those on ebay, I managed to get 5 Imperial Cruisers at a price that was a steal really. I went for it because I figured it would be nice to have two fleets around, just so I can play with friends who don't own one.

Those 5 Cruisers are:
1 Dominator
2 Dictator
2 Gothic

That's 990 points. Now the goal would be to bring this up to 1500 as well... and I could use some recommendations for this. I'm really tempted to go for an Emperor class (if I can get one at a halfway affordable price, which appears to be... difficult) as the flagship and fill in the rest with escorts, but I do have an open mind (I would even consider cutting one of the Cruisers I have from final list as well, if those 5 are too many Cruisers at 1500.)

So fire away guys - which fleet list would you use, and how would you round out that fleet, given the available core?

Okay, maybe that was a bit too unspecific to be answered. Different approach then!

So I'll start with an actual list, based on including an Emperor. Thing is: it has a million attack craft and quite a few torps, but only one reroll, and precious few escorts (and effective WBs, but maybe I'm just spoiled by Carnages  )

The bold entries are the ships I actually have atm, which doesn't mean they HAVE to be included. Is this any good? fun? Playable? How could it be improved upon?
I just want to make sure I'm headed in the right direction before I make any more purchases.

Personally:
if you field an Emperor you can pick other ships then the Dictators.
If you field two Dictators it is a much better idea to field a Retribution. Same speed, great torpedo wall and ordnance backup.

Sounds plausible. Means taking Cobras instead of Swords though!

Ah, I overlooked that. So my Emperor would  have been too cheap anyway.

Hmmm. With those extra points to spare, it would open up another option actually: dropping the Dominator and replacing it with a Dauntless and 3 Swords... lose the Nova cannon, but gain a speedy and maneuverable element with good firepower. Hmmm!
