BFG Batrep SM vs Imperial Navy 500 pts.
« on: August 05, 2014, 12:27:30 PM »
So i'm not sure where to put this i don't see a batrep board. So this was my first ever game of BFG, and capt44 was my oponent, he hadn't played in a good decade or more. Originally it had been stated no attack craft(fighters, assault boats, bombers, thunderhawks, ect..), But capt44 agreed a good portion of my punch comes from the thunderhawks i can launch, so he allowed me to use them.

My opponent to my knowledge was using.
2x lunar cruiser(not in a squadron).
4x sword class frigate

I was using.
2x strike cruiser
5x hunters

Opponents fleet starting.

My starting fleet.

I pushed up on the planet on one side, but my opponent went first and was moving 1 of his cruiser to pincer me. The ships i chose have very good movement, my objective was to close asfast as possible and shotgun some torp's into the big ships.

I learned you don't board a capitol ship with an escort. I read how awesome space marines are at boarding actions... the ship got dominated as it was the only ship to make the boarding action. And yes those are my torps flying uselessly away as i missed. We both where playing i move you move, we now know that was wrong but hey we where learning.

I dipped my ships deeper into the protection of the planet as i was coming around to reengage the main fleet. You can see capt44's second cruiser is finally starting to come around the planet and help his fleet.

His cruiser finally caught up, i had dropped the shield on one of his cruisers.

Boarding action against his last escort, strike cruiser dip into the rear of the cruisers to get out of fire arc's

close up, shortly after this, i had dropped one cruiser to 1 hull point and the other was crippled.

Closing:
I had a bunch of fun playing this game, i now know we weren't playing the way we where supposed to at all. We where using the lances as if they where batteries, so we where reducing their shooting when we shouldn't have been. I did the same with my bombardment cannons as well. Other mistakes where made but this was a learning experience for us both.

The second game i played  brought a lot more of what i needed to know into play, i saw a nurgle cruiser's engine detonate and do 8 d6 lance hits to some 7 ships around it, only 1 surviving the carnage.

Nice report, thanks. This might be a dumb question but what are the SM ships you have there? the barges look like Armand's 3D print models?

The space marine strike cruisers are own designs and builds by blibdhorizon himself. They're quite good!

Yes as horizon has stated the strike cruiser are something I designed and sculpted by hand, I cast these myself. The hunter proxies are a ship I had 3d designed and printed.

Very nice, they look really neat. They look suitably 'marine-ish'.

I've done quite a bit of 3D design, just printed a job lot of prow lances for my imperial fleet...the original lances did not hold up well to ten years of storage....
