Necron VP's question
« on: January 17, 2014, 01:23:22 AM »
So tonight I played a game against Necrons and the guy had to leave so we had to call it early.  This would be similar to a situation in a tournament round that runs out of time or a scenerio with a turn limit.  Anyway I killed a shroud and it was a drifting hulk.  Would a collect 3X points for that ship or do you only collect that if I held the field?  Is it a drifting hulk for the purposes of determining the Necron VP's given up?  Doesn't seem very fair or fluffy if you do get the 300 percent destroyed.

The wording in Armada says if the ship is a drifting hulk, then yes, 3x VPs's :(  At least I assume that to be correct, as it mentions ships destroyed but not drifting hulks worth 2X VP's

We always ran that you got the 3x vp's only if holding the field. Just seemed fairer.
I refuse to be killed by something I've never heard of.

You'd use the normal VP table + the Necron table.

"At the end of a game, including normal Victory points, count up the Necron losses using the following modifiers:"

What is the criteria?
- "Any capital ship that is destroyed and left as a drifting hulk counts as 300% destroyed."

Nothing else. It doesn't matter if you hold the field or not as it's not a requirement; hulking a Necron capital ship is worth 300% VP to the person that did it, resulting in 465 (Shroud), 1125 (Scythe), or 1500 (Tomb Ship) + upgrades x3.

It would also seem to me that if the necron player left me holding the field I'd also get the extra 50% of the base cost of the ship as well on top of the 300% for salvaging the hulk.  Doesn't seem very fair.

Bingo. Everyone says Necrons aren't fair, so it works out, right? :D

This was the intentional 'balance' to taking a Necron fleet that's hard to kill, highly mobile, and devastating at range.

Mistakes will be severely punished and the beatings will continue until morale improves.  Still 2+ brace and capital ships that can move up to 90cm I guess do balance things out a bit.

Yes and properly point the ships in the first place also helps balance the ships out ::).

What do you think they should be priced at?

A good question. The escorts don't seem to be a problem really but the tomb ship and scythe are quite a bit tougher to destroy then their points indicate. So to make up for it they have special rules to award extra points if you destroy one. That makes it quite un-fun for both people. So basically if it takes 600 points of ships to be a fair match against another ship consistently then make that other ship 600 points, don't make it 500 points and tell people to be proud of getting lucky and actually beating one so heres a bonus. They need to be thoroughly tested and reevaluated for correct pricing is all that Im getting at. Of course good luck with that given the current state of the game. We would need quite a bit more feedback then the currently active player base would be able to provide and a much better distribution network then whats available to make the work worthwhile outside of our own localities.
