New to BFG looking for advice
« on: March 13, 2013, 07:08:50 PM »
Hi people. I'm a long date player of wh40k, but i'm just starting to think about my fleet for BFG. This little big game has taken my attention and i'm not going to be satisfied until i manage to gather a respectable fleet  ::)
Since i play chaos marines & renegade guards , I wanted to collect my own Heretic Fleet.
I was oriented toward a fluffy list, based around some simple concepts, and i am looking forward to hear your competent advise. (btw you guys are doing an impressive job over the rules revision! keep it going!)

This Chaos fleet should be 1250 - 1500 pts
It cannot have great battleships, heavy cruisers and grand cruisers at best
The flagship should be led by Slaaneshi space marines
Escort ships reduced to minimum (since i don't like to handle metal minis...my bad)
Tactic shoulkd involve heavy broadside fire, while encircling the enemy, always escaping from boarding actions, using a small numbers of fighters to destroy enemy ordenance. Then i imagine a small group of "war hounds"/ "shock troops" to be unleashed on the approaching and pounded enemy, after the first steges of battle, to cripple them with boarding actions and double broadside fire.

I have some ideas but i would like to hear your comment. Thanks in advance and...well, have a nice day :)

2 Carnages, 2 Acherons, a Styx, maybe a Grand Cruiser. I would also consider a Repulsive. BTW I visited Florence a few years ago and it was absolutely beautiful. Waiting to go into the Baptistry, someone put a curse on me for not giving them money.  ::)

So a fluffy fleet without a Battleship but maybe a Grand cruiser and low on Escorts but with good range and the ability to circle the enemy with enough ac to cover its rear? I think thats the definition of "Chaos" in BFG :P.

Fluffy:

Murder
Murder
Carnage
Devastation
Acheron
Styx (lord,re-roll)
Vengeance or Repulsive (CSM,Slaanesh)
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Ya, that is about right for a fluffy fleet. A Carnage would suit your plan better but Murders are just more common.
Fluffywise you should have at least one escort squadron. Do some Iconoclasts, no need to glue bits ;)

And the Repulsive should be the grand cruiser.

Thanks a lot for the promp response!
Eh, I tought that Chaos in BFG was about ramming, boarding and short range fusillade before ramming and boarding!  :D I'm glad to understand I think the Chaos way without even knowing it!

The repulsive has a great model. I totally like it. Taken!

iconoclast are not to be glued at all? well, this is good. How many? 3 would suffice or you suggest 6?

@afterimagedan: Florence is a beatiful city...but it definitely lacks BFG players!
Don't mind about the curse, the power of the Baptistry is stronger!! XD. Those gypsies are mean....

So it should be something like this:

1 Repulsive (shield and lance improvements) 255
Space Marines + Slaanesh 60

1 Styx 260
Lord w/ reroll 50

1 Hades 200

1 Devastation 190

2 Murder 340

3 Iconoclast 75

I'll keep on lurking to watch the developement of the BFG: R rules :)
Thanks again and see you soon!

Ya the iconoclasts are one piece. You will want to fill the dimple they expect you to use for the stem of the flight stand and re-drill them to fit tho.

Dear Jesus...that is why I hate metal minis...well, I guess i have to do this. I'm more a painter than a modelist (and i'm laaaazy)  ;)

Two questions more:
- the Repulsive is metal? is there any grand cruiser in plastic/resin ?
- how do I build heavy cruisers? the same sprue as cruisers I guess?

yes, no, yes.
As we Imperials say, "The Emperor [class battleship] Protects..."
