Most up to date rules and lists?
« on: April 27, 2012, 09:49:24 AM »
I see people list fleets here and there with SM vessels having extra bombardment canons, shields, and other such alterations, but I do not find these in the downloadable lists from GW nor from the FAQ's that I can find, unless I am missing one.  What resources do I need to be working with the most up to date rule sets and codices?

This is a bit of a murky area.

Officially, the PDFs from GW are still the current version of BFG.

The FAQ2010 document, which was produced by the high admiralty, is also technically official as the high admiralty was asked to look after the BFG rules by GW. However, when the FAQ was produced GW didn't want anything to do with it (it's not badly written or anything like that, GW just aren't interested in doing anything for specialist games any more).

Anything else is fan-made. By all means use them, but get your opponents permission first.

BFG:Reloaded is a project which hopes to fully update all the rules, FAQ, and fleet lists and bring them together in one book (or series of books) but its not quite finished yet.

Is BFG:Reloaded where people are getting the strike cruiser upgrades and other similar things then?

No, it's the BFG 2010 Compedium that has the current crop of updates.

This is the other problem with the current state of the BFG rules: each gaming group plays with a different combination of rules because they aren't even aware of the others. I've never heard of the BFG 2010 Compendium.

On a related note: can anyone tell me where I can get a copy of the BFG 2010 Compendium.

When people use the phrase 2010 Compendium and FAQ 2010 are talking about the same thing. There is an actual FAQ 2010 file with FAQ stuff but the compendium is the fleet files for it.

BFG 2010 Compendium w/ FAQ

RFG:R stands for Battlefleet Gothic: Revised and has a couple more Strike Cruiser options that are partially included in the 2010 stuff.

BFG:R Rules

2010 stuff is more "official" because the rules committee made it, though GW does not accept it. BFG:R is strictly fan made/updated (I like it better but I don't mind 2010 stuff either).

Like that.

And what groups use is entirely up to them. Some use FAQ2010 plus Eldar MMS (BFG:R & indepent set) or not.

SOme use blastmarker rules from Battlefleet Gothic 1.0 (1999) with FAQ2010 etc
