Help with Chaos
« on: March 20, 2012, 03:44:18 PM »
Just started playing BFG, I've played two Cruiser Clash games using some borrowed magnetised Chaos cruisers against the Imperial Navy. We're using the BFG:R rules which seem good so far.

I'd like to get some more stuff and build up a Chaos fleet with a Slaanesh/EC slant to it as I've always wanted an EC army.

I've written up a 1000 point list to get an idea of what I need to get and want to make sure I'm on the right track:

Styx Class Heavy Cruiser   260
Ld 8 Warmaster   50
Mark of Slaanesh   15

Murder Class Cruiser   170

Devestation Class Cruiser   190

Heretic Light Cruiser   120

Infidel Class Raiders x3   120

Iconoclast Destroyer x3   75

I'm not sure about the type and number of escorts and the light cruiser as I've not used either so far and I've been trying to avoid ships that move less than 25cm  to keep the fast slaaneshi theme. Is it worth getting a Strike Cruiser in place of one of the normal cruisers?

Styx, Devi, and Murder are great choices, Im not too sure about the light cruisers for Chaos tho. I have never used the light cruisers because well the Slaughter is just too good to pass up and fits the bill nicely. for 45 pts over the Heretic you lose 45* off your turn, but you gain a shield; two hit points; two strength to your weps on each side; and two lances.

Strike cruisers with out a shield upgrade are poo-paper :/ and they're not much better with the extra shield from the FAQ2010.

Infidels are a good choice, they're torps will complement your launch nicely. Iconoclast have seen a boost with BFG-R but they're something I would still keep at home outside of a campaign. Idolators are kind of kick-butt now tho, they have the range to be useful with your capitol ships and the speed and maneuverability to put their lances to good use all for a fairly reasonable price.

That said your fleet doesn't sound bad at all to start out with, but I can see a lot of those ships quickly being replaced as your fleet grows.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

BFG: Revised, kay.

Good fleet. I would not have a light cruiser on its own, unless you want some risky pairing with the escorts.

Also pretty AC heavy fleet.

I would ditch the heretic + Iconoclast and add a cruiser: Murder, Slaughter, Carnage.

Not too familiar with the changes in BFG:R but the Murder is awesome-sauce in hunter killer packs. It is kinda odd duck in the chaos fleet as it's a vessel that should work in at least pairs to be effective. I tend to take them up against my gaming group when Eldar hit the field but of course everyone has their own opinions on that topic.
As we Imperials say, "The Emperor [class battleship] Protects..."

I dislike tailoring but the Carnage is much better vs official Eldar. Against BFG:Revised Eldar (MMS) the difference between Murder & Carnage is less felt.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I was originally looking at the Maelstrom Incursion fleet list rather than the Black Crusade one which doesn't have the escort restriction for cruisers. I've redone the list and ordered some models. The new ships are going to be magnetised too though so I'll be able to change up the configurations in the future.

Styx Class Heavy Cruiser   260
Ld +2 Warmaster   75
Mark of Slaanesh   15

Murder Class Cruiser   170

Devestation Class Cruiser   190

Slaughter class Cruiser   165

3 x Infidel Class Raider   120
