Turbulent and Meritech Escorts
« on: January 10, 2014, 09:27:55 PM »
I would love to work on stats for two sweet ships from the Rogue Trader RPG books (both in "Battlefleet Koronus"), the Turbulent and the Meritech.

Here are the stats for the Turbulent I think work and match the best model that works for it:

http://www.shapeways.com/model/1439830/tumultuous-custom-frigate-x-3.html?li=shop-results&materialId=61

2 Hits, 1 shield, 90* turns, 2 turrets, 20cm movement.
3 WB port
3 WB starboard
2 WB F/L/R
2 Torpedoes front

I'm going to get together stats that I think make sense for the Meritech that work later on. Thoughts?

Slow moving bruiser? Like the concept, An Imperial equivalent to the Defender :) I take it this would be for RT fleets rather than IN.

What points were you thinking for this? I would probably go with 50-55 off the top of my head, never been a fan of the Smotherman system.

Don't have BFK, what role does the turbulent have? System defense, Patrol escort? Those stats would seem to suggest that. Is it a proper line ship, or one of those 'other' designs the Mechanicus rolls out in a crisis?

55pts. That's where the revised smotherman gets us close to and I think it is where I would put it. The ships in BFK do not come with guns built in most of the time, they just have slots you can fill the weapons in. It has a port and dorsal slot. The problem is, it also shows the ships with obvious port and starboard weapons and I think that it is big enough to start making that a specific weapon slot (unlike how swords have side weapons but they lump it into a F/L/R weapon). This way, the prow slot becomes the torpedoes, it has a big turret on top, which becomes the dorsal FLR weapon, and the sides become batteries. Actually, this matches the model I posted pretty much exactly.

Here's my crack at the Meritech:

1 hit, 30cm movement, 1 shield, 2 turrets, 90* turns, 5+ armor
WB 2 port
WB 2 starboard
WB 2 dorsal FLR
40pts

Faster with overall more weaponry than the Havoc, yet less concentrated firepower and much less capability to fire forward. This ships is pretty fast, but has primarily side weapons, so it better use that speed to its advantage!

yeah, that profile looks ok. Shouldn't this be called the Shrike? ;)

Just googled both (and wiki) to actually see what was what. That model for the turbulent looks spot on! A sword force fed pies :)

Just seen this for the meritech, damn good match!

Yep. I happen to have that model. I do think Shrike is the proper name for it. Meritech is the people group it came from.
