[BFG] Weathering models on a BFG scale

So I've been quietly trying to expand my imperial fleet with a retribution battleship whilst I'm also waiting for some Tau models to arrive from forgeworld. It was really just the models I wanted to paint; Tau doesn't really float my boat but the models look SO cool. Anyway, I got to thinking my ships look altogether too showroom fresh for the feel of the game and I'm trying to figure out ways to 'weather' the models that would look half-way authentic given the scale. So far drawing a blank...
Any suggestions?

you could do battle damage. Burn marks from plasma, or a different coloration around the wbs due to the heat removing the paint, or them getting burned (similar to what happens to metal when it is heated, that rainbow effect).

Thanks Plaxor, but how would one model/paint a plasma burn?
