On the Evolution of Imperial Ship Design Philosophy.

Disclaimer: GW's fluff is inconsistent.  Sometimes in the same sentence.  Be warned.

Given the recent, and massive, overhaul in GW fluff, particularly the gruesome demise of the 'Big Gun Lobby' at the hands (and talons, and blades) of the so called 'Dark Eldar' and the extensive damage that presumably accompanied that to Segmentum Fortress Bakka and it's facilities, as well as, well, Age of Primarch, it is safe to say that many of the important decisions for about half, if not all of, IN are coming out of Calth.

This upsets many long held beliefs about the relationship between IN and SM.

Where do you see this fundamental shift in IN taking BFG fluff and, if rumors are true, future versions of the game?

I've been out of the loop for a while, what rumors are going around? Do you have a link/site to point me to?

I think he's referring to Forge World remaking various specialist games. Blood bowl is very obviously out and doing quite well, Adeptus Titanicus has been announced and some material has been teased.

With regard to BFG they said they'd get to it eventually, but my money is 100% on them setting it during the Horus Heresy.

I'll take that bet.

I have heard about FW taking on SG stuff after initial launch by GW, but heard nothing else. Seeing as BB is getting this treatment, I think we can say this is true

I also remember hearing that the flight bases are being discontinued as some point in the near future, anyone able to confirm/deny?

Would not put it past them at all...£100+ for a battleship most likely. That being said, still cheaper than Ebay these days! ;D

Some 30k podcasters spoke to the Forge World head honcho at the recent Open Day.  He said that they haven't started working on BFG yet, but personally, he'd really like to see a boxed set based on the Siege of Terra, with xenos expansions coming later (in a different setting, just as Armada was not about the Gothic War).  They're trying to release one Specialist Game per year: Blood Bowl last year, Necromunda this November, Adeptus Titanicus next year, and that's as far as they've gotten.

The 30k setting hasn't resolved ship aesthetic issues at all.  You've got Gloriana-"class" battleships depicted as looking very different from each other, like the Macragge's Honour looking exactly like an Emperor-class ship in that 2014 comic, but the Iron Blood looking like a larger, modified BFG Battle Barge in the third FW Horus Heresy black book from the same year.  In the card game ten years earlier, a couple were depicted as Emperor-class (-ish) battleships with plenty of artistic license, but the World Eaters' flagship had a Chaos-styled rear upper hull like the Vengeance-class.  I'm not sure it should be considered a class in the conventional sense.

All the escort class names in the 30k novels are familiar, but I've seen the Gladius-class Eisenstein depicted as a Sword-class in official art (probably from that card game, which came before the Black Library novels).

But if you pay close attention: They don't sell them. A lot of these see the prices and try to sell them for 100+/-X, but they won't. These ships are just sitting there for 1,5 Years or even longer. Maybe we will se the day when these people realize that nobody wants to buy a BB for 100+/-X. ^^

On the topic: Don't waste your thoughts, they will fuck it up somehow. Just let it come, brace for impact, and take a look...everything else could fuel hope, and i don't think we should have much hope here.

And rulewise - with faq2010 and tons of well designed fanrules, we really don't need new rules. The only thing we could need would be a good source were we can get ship models.
