1500 +250 Eldar fleet list
« on: January 07, 2016, 05:28:41 AM »
I was thinking of using this at this year's upcoming Adepticon:

Main Fleet (1450)
[530] Void Stalker - Pirate Prince, 2 rerolls
[250] Eclipse
[250] Eclipse
[210] Shadow
[210] Shadow

Allied Fleet (300)
[260] 4 Aconite Frigates
[40] Hemlock Destroyer

I always wanted to see an Eldar fleet that focuses more on their capital ships than their escorts. How workable is it? I also have two Auroras, two Solaris, and six of each escort on hand to swap stuff out.

You will miss out on the main Eldar strength: escorts.  ;D

The Nightshade is perhaps the most lethal vessel per points in the game. Eldar torpedoes are awesome.

If you like to focus on capital ships swap out a Shadow and Aconite for two Auroras. Those are pretty good.

If you want to go nuts try to build a list with the flame of asuryan and the void stalker. In the old lists that was possible forgot if the 2010 allows for it.

Edit: yup is possible if a Hero leads the fleet.
Flame + Void Stalker is a tremendous point sink but can destroy multiple ships in one attack run.

Well, I don't want to have the list everyone else has, and my worry is running up against other Eldar (at least one guy always has them every year). Weapons batteries are far superior in those cases! I guess the Eclipses have that covered though, mostly.

Still, got me thinking. How critical is the Void Stalker? Maybe something like:

Main Fleet (1500)
[400] Eclipse - Pirate Prince, 2 rerolls
[250] Eclipse
[210] Shadow
[210] Shadow
[140] Aurora
[140] Aurora
[150] 2 Hellebore Frigates

Allied Fleet (240)
[240] 6 Nightshade Destroyers

This gives me 32 Weapons Batteries, 6 Pulsars, 8 Launch Bays, and 32 Torpedo tubes.

Well, point for point the void stalker is essential.

You can even keep abeam with that vessel and have more range than any other Eldar vessel .
A nifty rules thing is to place the prince on a defensively played eclipse instead of the void stalker. The prince does not have to be on the biggest or most expensive ship! That way points are more spread.

It's that good huh?

Hmm, well alright then. What about this:

Main Fleet (1480)
[380] Void Stalker
[400] Eclipse - Pirate Prince, 2 rerolls
[250] Eclipse
[140] Aurora
[140] Aurora
[130] Solaris
[40/50] Hemlock or 3rd reroll

Allied Fleet (240)
[240] 6 Nightshades

No Shadows takes away most of my WB, but putting in a Solaris gets some back. I figured a single Solaris with 4 HP is more sturdy than two Aconites with 2 HP, and considering the same cost, even with the two less WB it's better. How important will rerolls be? I guess with a lot of ordnance and such, I'll want at least two. What about three?

Now, using Nightshades as allies also means I'm losing out on potential special rules, which I'd gain if I toted along either Dark Eldar or Tau as allies, basically any other escort type. Only the ships in the allied fleet gain one of the bonus rules:

Quote
- Expert Gunners: Doesn't take column shift penalties for range or blast markers.
- Vet Fighter Aces: Your Fighter squadrons are now resilient. If they were already resilient, their first
resilient roll is passed on a 2+ and may make a second resilient roll as normal in the same phase
instead of being immediately removed. Bombers ignore 1 turret for number of attacks rolled.
- Upgraded Lance Firing Matrix: Lances hit on 3+ compared to standard (if on Lock on orders reroll hits
on standard 4+).

With that in mind, I'm going to want guns, lances, or launch bays in the allied fleet, not torpedoes. So what about these ideas for the allied part:

- 6 Hemlocks (lance matrix)
- 4 Aconites (expert gunners)
- Hero (Tolku) Starship + 2 Defenders (expert gunners)
- Torture Cruiser - mimic engines (expert gunners)

the rules for the auxillary fleet were written carefully to take into acct certain fluffy fleets combos, without making them to much of a nuance. I've played a similar list. The thing with dropping the Void Stalker is that your pretty-much giving up the most important aspect of Eldar gunnery. As Eldar Gun-batteries treat everything as closing.

As for the Allied Fleet I'd Go with the Hemlocks. it's a sweet setup and if your lucky enough with those pulsars your gonna do some real damage. and if you wanna be creative throw in an Aurora. also I agree swap out a Shadow and Aconite for two Auroras

The Void Stalker may be a points sink but it's the only ship thats giving you Closing shots at 45cm, every other GB is at 30cm it's serves as a firing anchor for the fleet and thats why it's important.  8)
If I do kill you, it'll be from the front, and you'll be armed.

It would save me the trouble of sourcing DE ships (already have the Tau...plus I'd get even more AC).

What about:

Main fleet (1495)
[380] Void Stalker
[375] Eclipse - Dragon Prince, 1 reroll
[250] Eclipse
[210] Shadow
[140] Aurora
[140] Aurora

Allied flotilla
[235] 1 Hellebore, 1 Hemlock, 3 Nightshades

I just realized if I drop a reroll I can cram a Shadow into the list, giving me 6 capital ships...that's awesome!

Having the Hellebore and Hemlock in with the Nightshades means I can still take advantage of the lance matrix, but not really worry about doing a lock on, as I'll generally want to reload ordnance. Since the Hellebore is basically a combined Hemlock and Nightshade, that should work fine.

Now I have:
- 24 WB, 14 Pulsars, 12 Launch Bays, and 20 Torpedoes. Compared to the all-cruiser option of:
- 32 WB, 6 Pulsars, 8 Launch Bays, and 32 Torpedoes.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. Fewer WB and Torpedoes in exchange for double+ Pulsars and more Launch Bays. Guess I'll just give it a try and see what happens.

Albeit I am a big fan of Eldar torpedoes (nightshades!) fourteen pulsar is a scary thing. Forty two maximum his if you roll well... Har bar... Just tell that before the match and opponents will be scared.

You still have enough AC/toro synergy to keep that phase in check.

Just keep that fleet mobile and hit at the right moment at the right spot. That means a game can seem a little boring in the first few rounds but positioning is all important.
And lock on is the least used order for the Eldar fleet. You want that turn in the second movement phase. Only the void stalker can really pull it off in an abeam movement. Pulsar locked on @45cm is a nice punch for an unexpecting opponent.
