my favoured tactic with mounted shooters is to put 1 unit into a brigade with 3 heavier cavalry (Knights, Silverhelms, Boars etc...) when the heavys charge the shooters peel to one side and shoot out any support. Works well against most enemies but less useful against undead.

In my experience shooting raiders are good for defensive when brigaded. 4 shooting units with short frontage are difficult to beat when being attacked.

Tactic  that honestmistake said works well and is a possibility when playing brigades mixed os heavy cav+shooting cav.

When brigade with inf shooting or in small brigades, I use  them in the reserve and only goes to the hot point to pursuit enemy units reduced. They could be useful in the last two turns to hunt for those victory points of retreating beaten units.

That is my experience hope it helps
