Our WM group has recently gained a new member to it's ranks

He mentioned he'd like to try a WM campaign, and this got me thinking ...... "What are your views on how to run the best WM campaign?"
We will gather the group together and have a meeting in a pub at some time in the future
I have the book The Generals Compendium, there are some great ideas in that. Another friend also has the hexagon map GW released (I think it was called Mighty Empires??)
To give you an idea of the sort of thing I'm after I'll list a few ideas I've had so far.....
- Ideally I'd like to keep the campaign rules fairly simple
- I think I'd prefer a map showing areas the different races have conquered (it just looks cool)
- If we use a map I'd like some areas to affect the battle. For example ..... one location has burial mounds, if a battle takes place here the terrain will include some burial mounds. During the battle the undead arise and attack those units that have strayed too close. Or one location contains roaming Giants etc
- My gaming background is roleplay games, I'd prefer the campaign to be narrative.
- One problem I have with games/campaigns involving multiple players is >>>>> no matter how good you are, if 2or 3 players decide to attack your armies then you'll usually lose (I'm thinking of Risk type games) So, with this mind, another plan I have is to do a huge good v's evil campaign. Each side has specific objectives (eg. The Evil side gets victory points for destroying an Empire castle, or the Good side has to burn the Dark Elf fleet of ships, etc) With this idea there could be bonus victory points for achieving the task first?
Probably the best solution to this narrative campaign is for to be the Games Master, then you could have the night goblins digging a tunnel into the Dwarf subterranean Stronghold, one side setting up an ambush, or one side sneaking into the enemy camp at night after silently killing the guards........ But I wanna join in and be a player!
What do you think? Any ideas ?
