Distinguishing Gondor Militia / Infantry / Spearmen

I was looking over the lists here, and was wondering how to distinguish the 3 different "grades" of Gondor infantry with different models.

I was thinking that obviously Copplestone make the perfect spearmen - but for the weaker grades of Militia and Infantry, perhaps the Peasants and Romano British infantry made by Kallistra would fit the bill.

In any case, some kind of "peasant" for the weaker, militia, and perhaps historical infantry WITHOUT long spears for the Infantry.

what kind of beasteary/Imaginarium are you looking for?

- MERP- mithril Prince august figures - Angus Macbride?
- or modern movies?

I'm afraid I am ignorant of the old animated movies, and the Mithril figures! Please forgive my ignorance.

Ah we had the Tolkien bestiary in our charity shop and it is a beautiful work - very "Heavy Metal" and with contributions from artists who went on to define Games Workshop.  I liked it very much.

I'm afraid that the Games Workshop models define a lot of the imagery for me in terms of rank and file troops. But now I find myself looking through the various fan sites learning about all the different regions of Gondor and Arnor and such that never appear in the movies and would love to paint different banners and colours to represent the Last Alliance.

Good call! I didn't realise there was so much variety in the land of Gondor.  I always thought the Peter Jackson films were disappointingly "barren" of variety in the war - whilst adding contradictory things like the elves appearing at Helm's Deep.

Do you know how they'd scale against Kallistra and Copplestone figures from your collection?

I'm not sure how well armed Gondorian "militia" would be - using peasants for them seems something of an insult.

With copplestone fit well. Kallistra vary in sieze depending of historical or fantasy. I think in kallistra fantasy could fit well, but not in historical. Just my taste.

If you scroll two thirds down this page you can see this guy's WIP Kallistra elf cavalry. Undercoated in black, they look like they'd be really good for Gondor cavalry as I thought. Might have to file down the bases to nothing though so they don't look too big compared with GW silver helms as Knights of Dol Amroth.  Painted ones are on the next page.  I think what he did was to take the command pack which has good banners, and mix it with the normal High Elf cavalry pack.

The Romano British Kallistra one looks like it would be suitable one perhaps if the crew were replaced.
