Come on, folks. Let's call it. There are other good space games out there. It makes me sad, too, but... it's over, guys.

I've just started BFG, and I'm not too upset by official lines going as I was not relying on them anyway.  There are many other spaceship lines that are serviceable and many more arriving all the time.  If we look at how different the two GW Tau ranges were, we shouldn't have problems using alternative pattern ships for other races I think.  Same applies if you look at previous and current ranges of any 40k race. Styles change quite dramatically over time, think of this switch as another of those.

There are also other space games out there, but I've not found any I like as much as BFG, and additionally what is to stop them going out of business at some point in the future with the same result?  With BFG, same as with Epic, there are free rules documents that have been tested over time benefiting from extensive playtesting, and a community with a sense of self-reliance given that GW abandoned support long ago. The situation is not so bad I think.

Part of the reason I've put in such big orders recently - grab as much stuff as possible so anyone who has an interest in playing can roll on over and use what I've got rattling around...

I wish I had of done so a little earlier though - I missed out on picking up any strike cruisers... :'(

Pick up a whole bunch of dauntless and then remove the prows (which you can probably sell). Make new prows out of Plasticard. You'll have something close. Look in the BFG:R SM document. There are alternate paterns.
You could also make something that looks like the additional ship's compendium's Punisher SC using IN Cruisers and/or dauntless.

Capital idea, although with one critical flaw - arthritic penguin, remember? ;D

I do happen to have one spare dauntless as yet unpainted - I could always give it a go.
Even so, I managed to get a battle barge and a blister of every marine escort.  Added to the strike cruiser I already had it's enough for about 1,000 points - 2000 if I happen to paint them the same style as my Ramillies 8).

Cheers,

LDTM

Arthritic penguin aye.  Just leave the prows on then and add Dorsal turrets for bombardment Cannons. anything else to bulk it up too would be good.

I know, make the space marine prow first, see if it works, then lop the dauntless prow off.  Thank you, sir, I might try that out when I get back.

I think there's still plenty of life in BfG and the other specialist games.  Look at all the guys who play historicals despite proprietary minis never being sculpted by the company that wrote the rules (in some cases).

You may have to look diligently to find opponents, but they're there.

You can always seek out people to "help create battle reports via vassal and certainly not use that program to actually play the game".
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.
