HELP with models I just picked up (Chaos Fleet)
« on: May 17, 2013, 05:55:28 PM »
I played BFG a few times a few years ago with a single other player who has moved away. I sold off my BFG stuff since I wanted to fund other games but with the SG axe coming down I felt compelled to at least own a fleet out of respect for the game. I picked up a secondhand fleet for pretty cheap and would like some advice on how to round it out. Here is what I picked up:

Despoiler Battleship
Repulsive Grand Cruiser
Acheron Heavy Cruiser
Hades Heavy Cruiser
Styx Heavy Cruiser
6 Idolator Raiders
6 Infidel Raiders

I have 4 plastic cruisers that are unassembled. Looking for advice on how to round out the fleet with the 4 unbuilt cruisers.

Thanks.

Devestation
Carnage
Carnage
Slaughter

or
2x Slaughter
1x Murder
1x Devestation

You have a pretty good setup there! Your fleet would make a good head on chaos fleet so I would recommend Murders, maybe 3 of them. Probably 3 Murders and a Hecate from the 2010 Compendium. That would give you tons of head on lances. If I had that fleet, I would go with that. Your escorts can cover the role of Slaughters reasonable well.

Acheron, Styx, Despoiler (BFG:R) and even the Repulsive (upgraded) are all abeam, defensive aspect, ships. The Hades requires some form of head on approach. I would make a couple of Carnages out of your cruisers to use in the defensive aspect along with the bulk of your ships. You could proxy these as Murders in a couple of games to try them out with your Hades, see how you like that. As for your other 2, well Devs and Slaughters are both great ships but both work better in pairs, more so the Slaughters. So I would make them with 1 lance deck each and leave the other deck free. That way you could bluetac in launch bays for Devs or WBs for Slaughters as the occasion demands.

carnage x2
slaughter x2

to field all your ships you will need 4 more regular (not heavy or grand cruisers as you need 2 regular for every heavy or grand cruiser)

No, he only needs 2 more.

Because this is allowed:
Battleship
Grand Cruiser
Heavy Cruiser
Cruiser
Cruiser

Good point Sig, many of those ships can be used as a side scroller fleet. That's really what it comes down to: do you want a head on or side scroller fleet? I would personally magnetize them so you can do both.

I'm not familiar with the chaos cruisers but if their weapon options come in a similar manner to the IN cruisers I world suggest magnetising them as this will allow for you to use different classes as the need arises.

If this is not an option for chaos then please ignore me and continue with the discussion of alternatives...
Edit - afterimagedan beat me to it
