Death Guard Heresy Fleet?
« on: May 16, 2013, 04:28:44 AM »
Hi All,

New to the forum. Been playing 40K since 1989, but never got interested in BFG until recently. Picked up some ships about 6 months ago and ordered a bunch more with the demise of SG on the GW site.

I did some searching but could not find anything on the forum...

Suppose a person wanted to build The Death Guard fleet during the Heresy for Battlefleet Gothic? What would the list of ships look like and which BFG models would one use to build the list of ships (besides Terminus Est)?

Cadian Blood mentions that there are 26 ships in Typhus' fleet at Kathur (M41), nineteen of which seem to be capital ships.

This is what I have come up with so far. I am not very familiar with the different classes on Imperial ships yet, so can't yet identify classes from illustrations and need some help. Below is a ship list extracted from the Horus Heresy Collected Visions book and a couple from "Cadian Blood", although I am not sure that Daughter of Agony was with the fleet during the heresy.. Can anyone fill in the classes (XXX) and ship types (?) in the list below.

Any other info out there?

Thanks,

Tim

Collected Visions
Endurance - Capital Ship ( XXX class Battleship) HHVC pages 32, 35
Indomitable Will - Capital Ship ( XXX class ?) HHVC page 37. Appears to be a battleship
Spectre of Death - Capital Ship ( XXX class ?) HHVC page 303. Four weapons banks stacked 2x2 = Grand Cruiser?
Terminus Est - Capital Ship ( XXX class Battleship)
Undying - Capital Ship ( XXX class ?) HHVC page 348. Dorsal turrets so must be BB or Grand Cruiser?
Reapers' Scythe - (Battle Barge) HHVC page 247. Emperor class, Apocalypse class?
Stalwart - (Battle Barge) HHVC page 384
Barge of the Damned Transport for Chaos Cultists - HHVC page 132. Death Guard insignia
Spectre of Death - HHVC page 285. Death Guard insignia

Barbaros' Sting - Strike Craft (Frigate?) HHVC page 35. Dauntless class?
The Eisenstein - Frigate (destroyed)
Valley of Haloes - Supply Hauler (destroyed)

Cadian Blood
Aggrieved ( XXX class Battleship) Fought at Terra
Daughter of Agony - Cruiser

One more ship found in "Flight of the Eisenstein": Lord of Hyrus

Just for fun, not BFG related:
Death Guard marked Valkyrie - HHVC page 392

I wish I had collected visions with me right now. Unfortunately, it'll be in storage (moving) untill late June/early July.

Most Authors and Artists have zero knowledge of BFG. The only accurate books have been Execution Hour, Shadow Point and Relentless. And the first two were written along with/based off the BFG rulebook plot line.

Alot of the Heresy Era Battleships and Battlebarges are unique vessels and such. You can find several of them in the Powers of Chaos pdf (Terminus Est, Wage of Sin, Scion of Prospero, Conqueror). Terminus Est is a Despoiler Predecessor and Conqueror seems to be a Desolator predecessor.

If you want to represent more of those ships, use the rules for the Vengeful Spirit. It is pretty much the standard Legion Battlebarge at the time of the heresy.

Links to the rules are here http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=5203.0

You also might find more answers on lexicanum.

If I was going to build a Preheresy fleet, I would probably just use the stand Chaos list and take unmarked marine crews on all my ships.

True about authors and artists. But HHCV is still potentially useful.
Thanks for the booklist!  Ordered them...

Hmmm. Every copy I have of the Powers of Chaos pdf (including one just downloaded from GW) only has Terminus Est and is 4 pages long.

It will be a post Heresy fleet, but will include mostly pre-Heresy ships that were used during the Heresy. At this point I'm more interested in figuring out the configurations of the ships so I can build the models.

Here are a couple of Great Crusade/Heresy Fleet research threads I found today:

DL power of chaos from here
http://tinyurl.com/23nul8q (provided by Horizon)

That has rules for Thousand Sons, Death Guard, Emperor's Children and World Eaters. It is the 2010 powers of chaos.

If it is Post-Heresy, your ships are likely going to be well on their way to being Nugled up, so use the plaguefleet rules.

Thanks! Had not read all of the 2010 pdfs yet.

Termimus Est is being upnurgled and 6 cruisers are being Nurgled as we speak... :)
