blast markers and movement.

Blood for the Blood God!                Burn!   Maim!   Kill!               Skulls for the Skull Throne!
I wanted to check with y'all about a issue currently debated in my play group.  As we understand it, if a ship were to begin its turn in base contact with a blast marker, it counts as moving through the blast marker (SO... -5 movement), but someone in our group has suggested that as it is in base contact with the blast marker, it may also count has having its shields down.  If a ship is hit in a previous turn,  and produces enough blast markers to suppress its shields, does it have to roll for damage  (6 on a d6), for passing through the marker, when it moves in the next turn?

Only ships with no shields have to test for damage for moving through a BM. Ships that have shields don't have to test, even if those shields are down.

So Eldar, for example, have to test because they don't have shields. A ship with the shields destroyed critical hit has to test, because it has no shields. A ship with 2 shields and in contact with 2+ BMs does not have to test. Note however that the ship does count as having its shields down until it moves off the BMs. Each BM in contact will reduce shield strength by 1, regardless of how it came to be in contact.

You are partly correct.

Anytime you touch a BM you have -1 shields up to the total number of shields you have but you will never have to roll for damage unless you take a shield collapse critical (or are eldar).

For example, your ship takes 2 hits placing 2 BM and dropping shields. There is another BM 10cm in front of your ship.

At the start of your turn, your shields are down and you suffer the -5cm penalty. As soon as you move away from the BM your shields return to full strength until you pass over the BM 10cm away at which time one shield goes down until you are no longer in contact with the BM.

The roll for damage only applies to ship that have no shield systems available, not ships whose shields are down because of BMs.

Oh, and Browncoat, your banner and salutation seem to be somewhat at odds with one another.

One for the smart:

Lunar cruiser takes 2 blastmarkes on shields. Subsequently it gets crippled.
Crippled is shields halved.

So now it has 2 blastmarkers vs 1 shield.

What happens?

The shields are suppressed, as they don't have the strength to deal with that many blast markers, and there's the -5 to movement. However, it does not have no shields, so does not have to check for damage.

I'm not smart, just crazy.  Is there an answer to Horizon's riddle?
