With 3 units of regular Orc Boyz completed for now (still need to finish up the fine details and base them) it's time to move on to the Savage Orcs and Black Orcs. I would normally have completed the Savage Orcs before moving on to the Black Orcs, but due to some exceptional clumsiness with the Orc Skin paint, I need to wait for a re-stock before I can finish off the Savage Orcs.
Here are the two strips I've completed so far:

And the first two strips of the Black Orcs:

Very nice. Like the Braveheart look.
-
More WMM. Conversion of Apocalypse minis Sergeants to create some variety in the units.
-
Very cool. My Orc force grows slowly; a unit of Black Orcs from this week's painting efforts. Detailing and basing still to come:

Really lovely orcs! I'm always amazed by the level of detail on the original GW sets.
-
Thanks Stormwind - you're not wrong about the detail! On the regular orcs it's so minute I'm not sure I have it in me to paint the full 8 units I'd planned for a forthcoming siege... I mean I love that they each have a pouch of swag and a back-up weapon, but yikes :o On the other hand, the Savage Orcs are pleasingly straightforward.
-
Nice. Especially like the rusty look on the weapons.
-
I'm currently painting the Empire Warmaster models and I legit have gone from thinking I had OK eyesight to thinking I need to go to Spec Savers!
I thought I had finished a unit of Halberdiers but then I did a once over and saw they had half a dozen skull motifs on every strip, on their hats and helmets and even a couple of skulls for decorations on the ground!
-
WIP for WM Medieval. Kingdom of Poland Retainers. And the general's standard bearer.
-
Those look amazing empireaddict - very clean! I hear you Stormwind, I sometimes feel that taking and posting pictures is a way to quality check my painting. Orcs are done for now, so I'm on to Goblins:

-
Nice! I don't think I've ever seen a close up pic of those models before.
-
No longer WIP. On to the Nobles.
-
Those look great empireaddict!
For me there are just a whole lot more goblins ahead. Here are a couple of snaps of the not-quite-finished and based, but ranked up Savage Orcs and Forest Goblins:

They look fab! Are they the old GW sculpts or Polar Fox ones?
-
These are the old GW sculpts. I've had them sitting in a box for a long time, but now hopefully they'll see some action on the tabletop.
-
It's very satisfying to breathe life into things that have been sat in the cupboard for a long time.
I've been painting some Empire that must be 20 years old now in their old blister packets!
-
I hear you! I was previously of the opinion that my painting got better with each project and so I wanted some time before tackling the ones I really care about -like Warmaster - but now I fear if I don't paint them soon, I won't have the eyesight to do them justice :)
-
That's a 'Big Mood' as the younglings say, today!
I still take too long to paint things but I am trying to make myself get things done rather than wait for the magic painting elves to come out of the woodwork and do it for me!
-
Incredibly rough but I thought I'd best post something to prove I exist and am working on a new army!
I have some almost finished units that need touching up and varnishing, which I'll post in my thread later, but for what I'm working on in the tail end of this month, it's Empire Knights.
I've been experimenting with new colours and I wanted my knights to come from different orders.
I've been using the new GW Grey Knights Steel paint and whilst the new GW colours are VERY hit and miss and some are big disappointments, this one is a hit with me. It looks quite dark in the pot but when it dries it's pleasingly solid and bright.
I don't normally do drybrush armour but I tried it on the other unit here and it's going OK. They won't be winning awards but I think when they're done they'll look nice and different on the battlefield!
-
Wow! That has come up very nicely. I've been using the GW Contrasts for the base colours, which means an off-white undercoat - which takes a little getting used to if you're used to using black. But 'washing' the colour on has been great to highlight tiny details
-
I've been amazed by the Black Templar contrast paint when I've seen it - but a lot of my models I started years ago are all black undercoated and I can't be bothered changing gears to a new system I have to spend yet more ££ on unless it's for a brand new army, ha ha!

^ This site has some nice scans on it for knightly orders so I was using that for some inspiration! There's suprirsingly little in the way of Google Image search pics for even 28mm projects for the rarer knightly orders.
At some point I hope to get recasts of the Warmaster knightly orders (Jaguar, White Wolf, Blazing Sun) but that's not a pressing problem for now.

Pretty average photo of my spawning pond.
-
Sneak this in as the month ends, my attempt at some Black Rose style knights.
-
Wonderful - and your dedication to the source material is pretty inspirational.
-
Thank you!
I like your spawning pool, IT!
