Ahhhh exciting!
You planning a campaign?
-
I would love to do a campaign. But also just mass battles.
On the one side there will be Marienburgers backed up by Nuln with some Dwarf and Elf allies.
On the other side I imagine Chaos led by Archaon and Undead led by Nagash with some Orc mercenaries thrown in...

That's WM is all about :)
-
I am seriously considering just washing and highlighting it rather than base coat it...
Kallistra has done it and yes I know it is lazy, but it would be quick...

Woow that is awesome.
There is a catalogue of figures around here... if you would like to share some pics while you open your blisters or while you paint your army would be great! :)
-
Shall do, sir!
Any recommendation for a river system 4-5 cm wide?
-
Sweet!
-
I am envious
-
it does look fab we will be doing a large siege later this year maybe another outer wall ...

-
I also grabbed 2 packs of 2 TREEMEN from Kallistra:
Here with a couple of Empire Warmaster units for scale...
I imagine these Treemen can be part of a smaller Wood Elf Contingent or just be a kind of scenario characters in a wood on the table that charges those that come too near.. Or allies to my High Elves.
Furthermore they could be used as Albion Fen Beasts / Bog Beasts. I have a Warmaster Truthsayer and a Dark Emissary in Warmaster scale. But they are missing Bog Beasts!

Yikes... yours is bigger than mine.... ??? :-\ :o
Time to upgrade already! :P ;D (any excuse is good)
On a side note, how do you find those hexes... personally I feel they dominate the board and is a sore to the eyes... did you get them for gaming purposes (ruleset from Kallistra?) or because you just liked them?

Hey Edgar these table looks fabolous!
-
amazing! looks great, cant wait to see the pics of it all painted up and on the table :)
-
Hi re the hexes from kalistra they blend after a while and work well and I don't use them with any games system

Time to paint

I can't help but be excited on your behalf! =D

I use Hexon too, for all my 6mm/10mm gaming and it looks really good IMHO.
I don't think it works as well for 28mm gaming though.
Dave
-
with the hexon I found a river /moat looks really good on the front with the walls raised I level video attached

-
I created a modular river for my hexon terrain a while ago.
Here is a pic:
It's based on layers of foam board, airbrush paint job and resin for the water effect.
I typed clearer instructions but lost the post. Just le me know if you are interested - then I'll try again tomorrow.
In the pics you will also see some modular cliffs that are easy to make. And on the Architects of War website you can find good instructions for creating large forests. Just let me know if you would like to get some lessons learned - there surely are quite a few ;)

very nice love the river effect
-
Yep. Very nice one.
-
Very nice river and I love that little Orc stronghold as well!!

So this weekend I spent some time on the project.
I painted all castle pieces grey. I took a black and a white artist acrylic colour and mixed them to a grey and watered it down considerably.
I then painted all pieces with it.
Some before after pictures:
I then took some black and watered down even more to make a "wash". It did get the whole thing quite dark.
I then took some Vallejo grey london colour and drybrushed all (!) of the castle.
See some stages here:
After the drybrush I gave a few pieces some Nuln Oil. and a light grey vallejo highlight. No picture yet. I will do this with all the rest of the pieces this weekend as well.
After that the plan is to do more individual colours on some pieces and detail work...
Soooo time-consuming and I was literally painting the whole weekend and my hand was so cramped up.. :o

Reinforcements arrived in the form of a couple of Albion miniatures; a Truthsayer and a Dark Emissary. Pictured here with a couple of Treemen that can be used as count as Fen Beasts / Bog Beasts and a few Empire for comparison.

Time for a question:
What do you think of this old Citadel Toad Dragon for Warmaster. I was thinking of modelling (not that I am that good at it) a Tamurkhan on top. This baby has wings as well but I haven't included them, not the least because I presently misplaced them for a bit.. Anyways, Tamurkhan's Toad Dragon had no wings either..
I know the scale is a bit off, but still...
Some images and comparisons. I included Archaon and other Storm of Chaos characters and some Empire soldiers.
The Undead Reaper is from Kallistra (the base is GW) - all other models are from GW.

Oh and the link to the Ebay seller selling the new buildings. The quality is superb!!
http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/keleman23
-
Those buildings do look nice - I have looked at them a couple of times on ebay, but it is good to see them in the 'flesh'
I think your toad dragon fits fine - most WM monsters are really big, which is one of the things I like, big monsters aren't constrained by the practicalities of making them!
-
Are those all Total Battle buildings or is it a mix?
-
Got the buildings from this ebay seller...
http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/251642335100?nav=SEARCH
All the yellow resin buildings listed today are from this seller.. rest is Kallistra and GW..
-
I say, if you find Tamukhan interesting go for it! Chaos Dwarves would be hard to do, though. =-/
I LOVE seeing people make Warhammer units / specials for Warmaster, especially using Oldhammer models and suchlike - so yeah, have a Toad Dragon by all means. =)
-
These days I am so tired of all the GW shenanigans in the current games. But I think they create excellent sourcebooks and campaigns. I would love to do rules for the Tamurkhan campaign in Warmaster scale. I have some Warmaster Elite Handgunners and Elite Halberdiers and think they could be used for special units such as Nuln Handgunners and Marienburg Manann's Blades (with minor rule additions/tweaks). Tamurkhan could be more powerful than an average Chaos General but in return his dragon can not fly. Maybe I could convert a Bretonnian damsel on unicorn to ride a dragon to become a sorceress general on dragon.
I am sure one can find a way to produce some giant nurgle toads, maybe some old citadel Fantasy swarm or other? Tamurkhan himself can be the general of a Chaos Paragon Host that allow the player to create a mix of Chaos Warriors, Daemons and the Chaos Dwarf list.
I am currently looking for a Warmaster Forge World SHIP to convert to a Marienburg Landship!
Could be a fun enterprise... And maybe some campaign rules and missions inspired by the book?
Also there ARE some okay chaos dwarves... is it Eureka? And a guy on Facebook is finishing up an AMAZING chaos dwarf engine fitting the bill perfectly, very forge worldy..
I really think GW produces a lot of good things that could be ported over to Warmaster to an even better effect. The Nagash - End of Times. Perfect for Warmaster where you can play huge battles. I have lots of Undead (Tomb Kings with a little Vampire Counts mixed in (I NEED MORE VC!)) ... I could really see a campaign with Archaon (I have the model for Warmaster) maybe finds a way to resummon / resurrect Tamurkhan and they fight Nagash's Undead horde, both can use Orc allies. The third front is an Elves-Human-Dwarf alliance fighting for the old world....
Ah well... so much to do... ;D
-
Wondering if these Epic Demons could be used for Warmaster. They were huge for Epic (6mm) but may work better for Warmaster (10mm).... And Tamurkhan is going to feel mighty lonely otherwise...
I included some Bretonnian Grail Knights (unfortunately also my only Bret. unit! :'( ) and an Empire stand for comparison purposes...
High res:
http://imageshack.com/a/img908/2759/PUBlr1.jpg
-
Yeah I have that Tzeentch greater demon, the more dynamic one on the left - I was planning to use it as a statue of Chaos on a larger diorama style command base with Archaon from the Storm of Chaos Blister and various other common Chaos command models around it.
-
The Undead Reaper is from Kallistra (the base is GW) - all other models are from GW.
So what do you think? To Tamurkhan or not to Tamurkhan?
Ok the answer of your question is to Tamurkhan defnitively!!
For telling the truth first time I read your message I didn't understand too muck Tamurkhan? what is the meaning of that word. Then I googled it and I realize that is about a new epic campaing supplement.
Maybe there is no more WM suplements, but we are lucky because we have a rule system better to 28mm to represent huge battles of the new supplements. Cheaper, and affordable to play in one or two days a real huge battle.
Warmaster system is easy to make slight modifications to make scenarios. New supplements like Nagash and Tamurkhan is what is Warmaster about! so please go for Tamurkhan, enjoy building your forces and share your battles!
Could you sum up the camping system of Tamurkhan supplement?. I have read that there are six phases involving certain battles and I have curiosity about it.
A crazy idea:
How knows ....maybe if there are enough interest, could we make some battles reports following tamurkhan plotline?.
Just a hook or a idea: One month of real time covers a phase. People play their games with their groups in their countries, upload the reports in the forum and a overall stadistic of bad or good guys tell you who is winning the camping?
In KISS (keep it simple s****, mode), with no obligation of play every month, open minded spirit, and every group having its own house rules to no mess with unification. Only plot and victories count to build the campaing.
Actually I do not have oppnent in the place where I lived and part of my warmaster collection is not even in my city now, but I could do solo games.
The same idea could work also with Naggash plotline if there are interest?
-
So I got myself 12 Spiders of Mirkwood from Battle of Five Armies.
Now how to use them in normal Warmaster?
I am thinking Goblin spider riders. And with 2 pr. base facing the short edge I can make two units unless I want to cram 3 to a base and make 1 unit and have three spare spiders for characters? What do you guys think on how to use, basing etc.? And where to get the goblin crew?
http://imageshack.com/a/img910/4962/Je2ZIr.jpg
-
My preference would always be 3, or even 4, per base- I like things to look crowded and horde like. I'd probably base them facing the short edge so they can act as cavalry.
I probably wouldn't add goblins, but if you really want to the only easy option I can think of would be using some of Bel's- http://www.polarfox.info/Steppe_Gobliiinz/cat2627800_2334743.aspx (http://www.polarfox.info/Steppe_Gobliiinz/cat2627800_2334743.aspx)
His models are more spread and easier to separate than most GW models (plus some of his may already be sitting?)
-
So I tried my hands on this little conversion of Tamurkhan. And no I am not a master of green stuff, conversions and that kind of thing. And sorry the pics are terrible too...

Just a word of warning. There are problems with the full resolution pictures I posted.
Sooo I just checked into it. It seems I have a hit a bandwidth limit (though there is no way to check that in Imageshack). I bought a Pro account thinking that would be enough, but there is a 1TB limit on viewing apparantly. And since my full resolution links no longer work I assume I have hit that brick wall. Reading up on it it seems you may be able to view if you create an account and log in, but I am not sure if it works with free accounts as well.
Sorry about the trouble :-(
-
Seems my links are alive again...
-
Really am watching these with interest.
I was looking over my Storm of Chaos models and started doodling ideas for how to give them exciting 40mm round diorama bases. I thought I might get Teclis to be summoning a Man O' War sea elemental or something.
-
I may just steal that idea if I can get my hands on one of those elementals! :)
-
Well, if I could find one on a bitz site, the idea I had for the Vampire character was him atop the Tomb Kings pile of skulls and bones with one of the new Spirit Hosts around him, as though he was summoning this huge spirit!
-
Ahh so much to do 8)

-
Keep them as is !!
-
I like the copper gates
-
Man are you going to try and make some monsters from Monstrous Arcanum? Or proxy them, rather? That is exciting. :-X
-
I like the copper-wrapped gate look. It'll help stop them burning.
-
Sooo I am playing around with the early stages of a Marienburg Landship... Pictures are bad as always and the full resolution below are somewhat better, but not much..
It is made first I did a wire frame. Then I filled it with greenstuff to create the shape, which by the way is not perfect. And then I used plastic strips that sealed some plastic containers cut in pieces to fit the main hull to look like wooden planks.
I have prepared some bitz incl. chopping up a steam tank and will continue with cannons and a captains quarters box and all that.. a lookout spot as well I think...

-
That's a lot of greenstuff! Looking promising so far.
Will you be flattening the bottom of the boat at all? A round bottom is going to make adding the wheels hard- unless you plan on making a fancy wheeled carriage to hold the entire boat?
-
Another progress report. It is a bit crude, but this is the best I can do...
Next steps are, I want to add a sail, possibly a ladder or two and some guns sticking out of the round windows. I won't add crew before I have painted it up, but I may add some more steam engine mechanics... And of course it need a steering wheel.
Sooo much to do, huh?

Looking really good!
-
Pretty cool, with a base coat it will suddenly come together!
-
A ladder is a good idea, though a cargo-net may be more nautically themed? (or maybe my perceptions are just skewed by computer games :P )
-
I may just do a ladder since I have a couple of small perfect one from GW Warmaster siege series...
-
What do you guys think. Should I remove the steam tank top in front of the ship and replace it with another top/house like the one in the back of the ship? I am thinking a rectangular "house" to give the ship edge.
I am worrying that the steam tank top seems out of place... thoughts? Input needed!
I will probably spray paint it this weekend!
-
I would keep the steam tank, but is just my opinion.
-
I too would keep the steam tank front - but maybe try to drop in down a bit lower - it looks rather perched on top of the forecastle below it.
-
Thanks for input guys. I have left the steam tank (still undecided) for now...
I did however work on a lot this evening.... here is the result.. I added a steering wheel, anchor, ladders, cannon barrels in the port holes, some more steam tank shenanigans, som mast bars to hold the canvas sail and few more details here and there... the captain is not glued on the ship and neither is the dwarf spotter (I picked him because I imagine Marienburg to use mercenary dwarfs and he does sport a nice monocular piece)....
I hope you enjoy it... Input still welcome!

I will paint it soon and will try to take better pictures after. While the whole thing is a bit uneven here and there these pics doesn't do it justice... Not perfect model by any means but I like it so much more when I look at it compared to these pictures... white and metal stuff and flash just looks meh and the it looks even messier than it does in reality, I think.... oh well..

I like it- a crazy, ramshackle human construction. I'm not sure if a dwarf would trust it enough to stand on though :P
Everytime I read this thread title I hear it with a sing-song voice, and follow it with 'put on a happy face!'
Just thought I'd inflict that on other people...
-
Ha! Yeah, "crazy, ramshackle human construction" is a very fitting description! ;D
-
Please do a run down of all the bitz you used! =-D
-
It's a reall beauty! Well done :)
-
Thanks Pabook!
@Stormwind - for the most part it is quite easy, but all the grey plastic parts are some Warhammer Fantasy stuff that I have no idea what is. I bought tons of bitz on ebay and can't recall what is what or why I got it in the first place. That includes the tiny shields. But Fantasy bits for sure...

Just a weak and boring update. Started a new job 3 months ago and have been (and still are) insanely busy getting to master the new organisation and analytical systems.
But since I am playing this Sunday I got a print of all the standard Warmaster rules, so I thought this may inspire someone. I sent six pdfs to a local print shop to get one volume in a binder.
I took the pdfs from here:
http://wm-selector.appspot.com/
Warmaster Rules part I
Warmaster Rules part II
Warmaster FAQ
Warmaster Armies
Warmaster Armies FAQ
Warmaster Trial Armies
The pictures doesn't do it justice, but the paper is a thick, smooth high quality and is insane nice to look at and touch!
Here is the new binder book and some other Warmaster ressources books incl. the special Warmaster inspirational series GW released called THE END TIMES ;) :P

That's all for now. I hope to get more energy now to do Warmaster stuff as I can breathe again job-wise.. (it always take me 3-4 months to resurface after starting a new job)...
Oh and I am looking for a few daemon characters...

I hope for better updates soon!

You have the hard and soft cover versions of all of the End Times books? How? Those things sold out within minutes- it was madness. Also, your wallet must be crying after that!
I actually prefer the Storm of Chaos over The End Times. Both were/are plagued with bad fiction, but I really don't like that The End Times did horrible things to Wood Elves and Orcs and Goblins may as well not exist. There's heaps of other issues as well, but I won't say more than that. Too easy to rant, and filled with spoilers for those who want to read the stories.

I don't have the soft covers, just the hard covers. There are 2 volumes in each hardcover box (see the little I and II signs).
It was really easy to get the hardcover book as allied myself with a local retailer who made sure to get me a copy. Only Thanquol was not sold to retailers, but that was not sold out for at least a day (though GW website went down).
And I agree with the Elves and GWs direction in general. I do like the idea og combined chaos forces and combined undead (in warmaster, not fantasy). And I think the idea of the invasion and large battles between large forces can be used well in Warmaster with some pick and choosing over what fluff to take out...
As a Warhammer Fantasy supplement and GWs new direction and the new rumours I think GW fall flat on their face...

Oh well I did get to spray paint exactly 1000 magnetic (!) Sally 4th warmaster bases and 200ish other kinds of bases for commands and dioramas..

Not completely a wasted day....
(and yes the hard part was to align them, took foreeeever)
Since I don't get to paint and flock my miniatures all at once, my reasoning is that I am going to put them (when base coated) on green bases to look better on the table....
-
That seems a lot of work! dow.
Well done

Wargamers need longer lives, because our work is never done.

I feel strangely emasculated by your level of commitment to Warmaster
-
Oh I think I am way behind you Stormwind... ;D

Holy bases!!!
I'm thinking about picking up the Kallistra castle, but struggling deciding how many wall/tower sections to buy.
What would be a good size castle to build for a 6X4 table? Any thoughts on what pieces and how many I should buy?
Time of Madness
-
Good question.
First of the best rules I found (haven't played a siege yet) are from Warmuster Magazine. They still need tweaking though.
They might however inspire you.
I bought my castle to stretch across 6x4 and still have left over walls for the three keeps inside where a city will reside too.
I think you have to think about army size. How many units and bases? One unit or 2 artillery units fits a tower. Double that in a keep. Normally a unit only has one rank on the walls. A warmaster base is 4 cm. Kallistra walls are 5, 10, 20 cm. Smaller wall sections are an advantage for when walls collapse. At least keep a mix. When dedicind also think cavalry and other units doesn't occupy the walls and towers. Say 30-40 %. Finally a 1/4 or 1/3 of the army may be on reserve/relieve force duty if you want to play that kind of game where they randomly decide if arrive in later turns to relief the Besieged.
By the way maybe think 5cm wall for each stand to make space.
Doing this math should allow you to calculate your castle footprint quite adequately.
Also remember that going small is fine. Get some experience and the expand. I just got a big one as I wanted huce ass games.... ;)
-
Maybe this:
4000 pts Empire. 1000 in relief duty, arrival possible by dice roll from turn 2. 1000 pts. castle on sally forth duty. 2000 pts. on towers and walls. Say 22 units on walls and towers. 66 stands. 5 cm castle pr unit equal 330 cm. Give up 15 cm each for 5 towers and 3 gateways and a keep. About 195 cm of wall left. That's 20 10 cm sections.
So maybe 20 10cm wall pieces, 5 towers, 3 gate ways, 1 keep.
That's still a big castle though...
-
Played a game today. Pictures and report in the "Warmaster (GW)" Facebook group. Too tired to upload. But take a look.
3k pts. Empire versus a friend's 3k Chaos. He conceded when doing his 4th turn after my 4th. He mucked about with terrain trouble and had too little command structure to move forward. The river (not shallow) played a huge role unfortunately. Shooting drove him back on the bridges and disrupted his movements and master plan.
Fun game, but not a single close combat.
I am amazed how much 3k of Empire can fill a table.
Goodnight!

Reinforcements have arrived from the cold north east...
