OK guys I am sorry the delay but my office the last days was like a battlefield :P.
As some of you may remember I mentioned I wanted to write a sort of expansion for BFG based on small battles, now the idea would be 200-300 points, I was written everything on my own and I realise that even if I can do it maybe is better if I expose my ideas and maybe people give fresh ideas.
So here we go in this topic I will expose the ideas in witch I am working so please comment and especially criticise them so the project end in a success ;D.
First idea, the main armies available and their composition.
I thought a lot and this is the list I maid, please comment if you like what you like or not and why and if you think I should add something just tell me.
this is an extract from my manuscripts
This expansion pretend to represent small combats, That is why Imperial navy, Chaos, Mechanicus exploratory fleet, Necrons and Craftworld eldars have been deliberated excluded due to they just take part in big battles or travel in larger groups.
If you are an imperial or mechanicus player you can just adapt some of your ships in a system recon and patrol band or you can initiate a parallel fleet like arbites forces, astartes company, inquisition or roque trader witch can easily perform the plot of allies in BFG.
If you play chaos you can just prepare some of your ships to represent a revel imperial system or a wolfpack.
If you play craftworld eldar you should may built an eldar outcast band, as Craftworld are more likely to trust them rather than exposing themselves.
If you play necrons you are not welcome!.
Just joking! necrons can use the standard fleet list due to the fact that they shall not have refits.
bands available
Human system band (Imperial, chaos, wolfpacks, rebels, mechanicus minoris(I will explain this on another post))
Rogue trader exploration fleet (I would like RPG players to help me with ideas for this one)
Arbites judgement force (justice of the emperor :))
Astartes Company (I think a more realistic way of showing space marines)
Eldar outcast band (don't need any explanation)
Dark eldar band(I think a more realistic way of showing a dark eldars band)
Ork freebooterz(HERE WE HO, HERE WE GO, HERE WE GO!)
Tau commercial expedition(I have some ideas I will expose)
Inquisition(This one is going to be tricky)
Kroot migration(Just kroots,***k the TAU :))
Tyranid Vanguard family(a big kraken family)
Drow caravan (I still have my doubts)
Demiurg mining expedition(I still have my doubts)
The band is thought to be just a group of escorts, as escorts will have new rules available to them, but not excluding the possibility to have even battleships. But I will show these on future posts today just the list of bands.
All of them will have they own fleet list, some of them with new ships or rescued ship from the additional ships compendium. and I specially want to work on refits, I want to encourage players to make conversions and having a band in witch every ship is unique despite the fact that they are all escorts.
I will also include a pack of new rules so players will have the opportunity to have escorts with more than 1 hit (If the initiative success we could use this as feedback for BFGR) and a new type of ship introduced to the community by AndrewCrisliew the corvette.
I have a ton of ideas but I will show the time by time ;), Actually I am starting with this section but I hope the biggest one is going to be the misions.
Please don't hesitate in comment, especially if there is anything you don't like, you want explanation or you want to help giving new ideas.
Cheers

Can't wait. Sounds awesome. ;D

This is what I once started, on the old SG forum I uploaded it for everyone to build on and use. So feel free to take whatever you like.

Well the fleets sound reasonable enough. Im not sure how your planning on getting battleships at these point levels tho :P. What sort of limits are you looking at for capitol ships?
-
Thanks Horizon again, I will see if I can take advantage of it.
Well Well, I guess the best way of solving the doubts is an example.
So here is the fist draft of the human bands just the ships options. Depending on the type of the humand system the ship restriction varies a bit
BAND LIST
Light cruisers
Your ban can be supported by a single light cruiser
0-1 Dauntress class light cruiser…………….110pts
Heavy escorts
(you can have 1 heavy escort for every 3escorts in your fleet
0-2 Defence monitor. ……….……….………… . 60 pts
0-2 Escort carrier………………………………….60 pts
0-1 Official ship…………………………….…….70 pts
Escorts
You can have any number of escort in your fleet
2+System ship ………………..…………..………... 20 pts
0-2 Swordclass frigate…………………………….35 pts
0-2 Firestorm frigate…………………………………..35pts
0-2 falchion class frigate………………………………35pts
Havoc class frigate……………………………………35pts
Cobra class escort……………………………………..30pts
Corvettes
You can include 1 corvette for every 2 escorts in your fleet
Bee class corvette……………………………………..5pts
Bettle class heavy corvette……………………………10pts
Assault corvette……………………………………….15pts
Suicidal corvette………………………………………10pts
Please send me your reports, the main idea is that human system ships are more like the defences list, with a lot of crap ships and very few good ships.

Official ship? It seems that this would be the perfect place for some of the ships from the Rogue Trader PDF.
-
Sorry maybe is a language error, that ship is thought to be the ship of the governor or similar, in spanish 'coche oficial' is used to refer an autority car so I just changed to ship. Should I correct this one?
-
Im still lost what are the stats for an "official ship"? The only ship you dont have listed that i can think of being close to 70pts it the Qship and its 60 iirc.
-
that is going to be a new ship. ::)
-
Ah that makes sense then.

In Warp Rift 16 I wrote a small article on small scale battles. Feel free to use as well.

I have been feeling increasingly pirate-y recently, and small scale BFG battles combine Warhammer 40K with pirates! What could be better? There is a classic DOS game called Pirates (Gold) that I have where one takes the role of a privateer/pirate captain and it would slot in really well with small-scale BFG.
I would also suggest that Tau are a good choice: Commerce Protection Fleets are an excellent analogy to certain East India Trading Companies and unscrupulous privateers :).
Will be awaiting eagerly!

Hey guys,
I am back again, apart from restarting my modeling proyects (lets see if this next year I participate in the gothicomp ;D) I want to finish with the fist draft of BFG Skirmish.
I was thinking in sharing the work at that point to have some support and new ideas to make it richier.
I hope I can give and update soon ;)

I wonder if anyone is still looking at this one? Fortunately, Tapatalk remembers me and it's been looking at me in the small list of 'Participations' I have :p
I hope things have gone well, harec! In the hiatus, I've come across the Adeptus Titanicus 2 rules for Epic:40K's titans that Jervis Johnson developed. Whilst they were not entirely successfully integrated into the standard Epic:40K (that is, Epic 3rd edition) game, they seem pretty interesting for a stand-alone titan/big thing game. I've thought about porting the mechanics to the 3E-7E WH40K rules for more interesting vehicles but it strikes me they might be interesting for a skirmish BFG game with the necessary extra detail!
The system doesn't use 'hit points' so much but rather has damage charts that are tweaked depending on the resilience of the target in question. For example, it might take one very strong hit or several weaker hits to cause damage to a certain component of a large titan (or ship, in this case) but a single weak hit might be enough to cause the same damage to an escort.
The basic mechanism is this: a unit has a number of guns with rates of fire and strength values, and the unit's toughness is represented with armour values for various hit locations. Each unit has a basic hit chance (essentially a ballistics skill, e.g. weapons hit on a 4+ for each shot) that is modified by what the target is doing (e.g. sneaking around in holofields, moving fast , manoeuvrability etc.). If a weapon hits, you roll to see what target area is hit (and choose to aim high/low etc.) and the player rolls a D6 and adds it to the strength of the weapon, subtracts the target armour and looks up the result on a damage chart. If you've scored minor damage before and you score minor damage again, it gets upgraded.
Often, the high-damage results cause destruction of the unit, but not always (Ork gargants can wander around burning for some time!).
The original rules use a manoeuvrability rating to determine which units move first but BFG could use leadership to determine that (an idea I saw from Tim in the thread about BFG turn order).
I shall find some way to link to the rules or attach them!
Food for thought,
Thinking Stone.

WebArchive to the rescue! Good old Wayback machine.... There are more rules too, some of which I have (though apparently there were Tyranid ones which I've never been able to find).

Hi thinking stone,
LOL Its been a long time, indeed I stoped the project because I was migrating and didn't really have anybody to play and support ;D.
The good thing is that now I am introducing a group of friend to BFG so maybe in some time I will have a hole group to restart the project. ;D

Hello harec!
It has been a long time, haha! I was looking at some posts I made a few years ago and only remembering half of what I said! It's funny how sometimes one isn't around online forums much and then all of a sudden you feel the urge to post again!
Huzzah for the new group! That's been my problem, a general lack of people (and time...) to play BFG with (and my friends aren't as into experimenting with the rules as I am). Maybe the new Games Workshop Specialist Games can bring back a bit of the space battle fire! Though interestingly enough, I don't actually live that far from ZenithFleet and his fairly sizeable group (but we all know how often one goes to the other side of the city haha).
Well, I'm glad to hear you've successfully migrated and seem to be settled in with a good bunch! If do you ever get thinking about BFG Skirmish again, I think this Adeptus Titanicus II system from the end of Epic40K might have some merit with a few BFG bits like movement thrown in.
